The types of information we collect and the reason we collect it
To help detect spam, we also track the IP address and the user agent string of visitors who leave comments on the site.
An anonymous string derived from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to Gravatar to determine if you are using the service. Your profile picture is visible to the public after approval of your comment.
Images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) should not be uploaded to the website. Website visitors can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
If you leave a comment on our site, you can opt-in to have your name, email address, and website saved in cookies. Please fill out these fields when you leave a comment, so that you do not have to provide the same information again. Cookies will last for one year.
If you are logged in with an account, a temporary cookie will be set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. The cookie contains no personal information and is discarded when your browser is closed.
Additionally, we will set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display preferences when you log in. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. When you select "Remember Me", your login will remain active for two weeks. Logging out of your account will remove the login cookies.
A cookie will be saved in your browser if you edit or publish an article. The cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
This site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor had visited the other website.
How long we retain your data
Your comments and their metadata are stored forever if you leave a comment. Our goal is to be able to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
When users register on our website (if any), we also store their personal information in their user profile. The user can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except that they cannot change their username). Administrators can also view and edit this information.
The rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided. You can also ask that any personal data we hold about you be erased. Data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes are not included.
